Abstract

The main objective of the research is to investigate the significant contribution of English course to the students’ writing ability in SMPN 7 Mataram. The research design used in this study was a case study. The sample of the study was 48 students enrolling in the school private course and the teacher teaching in SMPN 7 Mataram. The data was collected through providing writing test analyzed through using likert-formula, giving questionaires, and doing observation. The finding showed : 1) there were 77 percent of the learners who passed the school passsing grade; 2) the students were satisfied with the teacher’s class perform and enjoyed doing their writing-tasks in the class; and 3) the teacher methods varied. It means that English course has a significant contribution to the students’ writing ability in descriptive text at SMPN 7 Mataram.
