Abstract

This study deals with the investigation of using an outlining technique towards students` ability to write descriptive text. The aim of this study was to identify whether outlining technique gave significant effect to improve students` ability to write descriptive text. This study was conducted using an experimental research design. The population of this study was the eighth grade students of MTS DI Putra Nurul Hakim Kediri in academic year 2014 – 2015. The sample of this study were class VIII-A as experimental group and class VIII-B as control group, each of which consisted of 36 students. They were determined through purposive sampling technique. The writer used test (pre-test and post-test) to gain the data. The result of mean score for pre-test in experimental group was 55.28 and for the control group was 56.92. The result of post-test`s mean score for experimental group was 66.36 and 64.39 for control group. The data analysis showed that the result of t-test was 3.26 which was higher than t-table 1.99444.and 2.64790 at the confidence level of 95% and 99%. It means that H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted. It can be concluded that outlining technique is better than conventional method (PPP technique) which means that outlining technique give significant effect to improve students` ability to write descriptive text.
