Abstract

This research is conducted to examine types and functions, and to tackle the case of reasons for Deddy Corbuzier and Cinta Laura do code switching in Deddy’s Corner Program on Trans TV. This study used theory by Poplack (1981) in order to examine the types of code switching, i.e. intra-sentential, inter- sentential, and tag switching. Poplack also explained about two linguistics constraints: free morpheme and equivalance morpheme constraints. Qualitative based on content analysis was applied in this research. Methods in collecting the data were downloading and watching the video, then transcribing the utterences. Hence, some steps in analyzing the data, i.e identified, selected, categorized, and formed the conclusions. After data analysis, it is found that 77 code switching were used. Types of tag switching were found 11 data, 22 data for inter-sentential, and 58 data of intra-sentential switching. There were some types found in a utterence. The type occured dominantly was intra-sentential switching. Two linguistics constraints, free morpheme and equivalance morpheme both were appeared. Another finding was functions of code switching. There were 6 functions found, and the dominantly was topic functions. Reasons for the speakers used code switching also investigated in this research. There were 6 reasons were found, the dominant reason was occured about talking particular topic.
