Abstract

In general, this study aimed to map the readiness of junior high school teachers in Mataram to teach English using the 2013 Curriculum as their guidance. The main focus of this study however, is to measure teachers’comprehension regarding the five most vital learning models of English lesson in the 2013 Curriculum, because the more they comprehend those models, it will be easier for them to implement English lesson using the 2013 Curriculum. In addition, another purpose of this research is to find out some efforts they have done in order to meet the necessary requirements of teaching English according to the 2013 Curriculum. This study was conducted at five junior high schools in Mataram: SMPN 2, SMPN 6, SMPN 9, SMPN 10, and SMPK Kesuma. Data were collected by distributing questionnaires and conducting group interview with the teachers from those five junior high schools. Those schools were chosen by the Government to implement the 2013 Curriculum into the English lesson. The researcher applied survey research as a method to measure the readiness of the English teachers in embracing the changes of ground rules and guidance toward teaching English in the 2013 Curriculum. The population of this study was 19 English teachers. The sample of this study was chosen from the population and was used in order to represent the population. This study applied a purposive sampling, which is commonly used in qualitative research studies. There were two methods of data collection used in this study: questionnaire and interview. After all data were gathered, the researcher analyzed them thoroughly. The result of this study shows that most of the teachers are not fully ready to meet the necessary requirements of teaching English based on the 2013 Curriculum.
