Abstract
Background: Epilepsy occurs due to abnormalities in the brain with seizures as clinical manifestation. These affects patient cognitive, social and psychological aspects, resulting in disruption of quality of life. The purpose of this study was to find the relationship between seizures characteristic, such as onset of seizures, frequency of seizures, duration of epilepsy, and types of seizures and quality of life in pediatric patients with epilepsy. Methods: This study is a descriptive analytic with cross sectional study design involving 29 children with epilepsy aged 2-15 years at the Pediatric Clinics RSUD Provinsi NTB. Data collected by simple random sampling technique which was taken from November to December 2021. Measurement of quality of life using Pediatric Quality of Life Inventoryᵀᴹ (PedsQLᵀᴹ) followed by statistical analysis using Chi-Square test, One-way Anova test and logistic regression multivariate analysis. Results: Based on findings from 29 subjects, mostly were male (58.6%) with age range of 5-7 years (44.8%). As many as 5 subjects (17.2%) had impaired quality of life, but there was no significant difference in the mean score of physical, emotional social and school domain of quality of life (p>0,05). There was no statistically significant relationship between seizure onset and quality of life (p=0,565), seizure frequency in the first 1 month (p=0,193), duration of epilepsy (p=0,891) and seizure type (p=1,000), but there was a significant relationship between the frequency of seizures in the last 1 month with quality of life (p=0.003; OR=5,835; CI 95%=1,254-27,156). Conclusion: Seizures frequency in the last 1 month is associated with the quality of life of children with epilepsy, with increased of risk 5,835
