This thesis entitled “the analysis of metaphorical expressions used in The Great Gatsbymovie” attempts to identify the types, forms, meanings, and functions of metaphorical expressions based on Gibbs’s. The data was collected from (1) Observing the movie by watching – re-watching it, and (2) reading the written script of the movie. The data collected were analyzed by applying descriptive analytical method. Based on the analysis, it is found that there are two types of metaphorical expressions used in the great Gatsby movie; (1) novel metaphor and (2) frozen metaphor.Further, metaphorical expressions in movie are used to help the audience to capture the implicit message delivered by those characters in the movie.
