Abstract

This study aims: (1) to know whether the contents of the textbooks used by seventh grade students of Junior High Schools in Mataram are compatible with 2013 curriculum; and (2) to know the teachers’ perception aboutand th learning process in regard to its compatibility with the syllabus of 2013 curiculum. This study used mixed method; descriptive qualitative methods. The population of this study is all of seventh grade English teachers in all junior high schools who use 2013 curriculum; i.e SMPN 2 Mataram, SMPN 6 Mataram, SMPN 9 Mataram, SMPN 10 Mataram, and SMPK Kesuma Mataram. The samples of this research are some textbooks used by seventh grade students that chosen as the sampling through random accidental sampling method. The data collection was done through documentation and questionnaire. The results were analyzed by identifying, describing, and comparing the content of the textbook with the indicator in syllabus and by analyzing some factors that made teachers use the textbook based on the criteria of a good textbook. The results of this study revealed that (1) even though there are some lack of materials in some chapters in this textbook, but this textbook is already compatible with curriculum 2013, the 2 core competencies are already available in all chapters in this textbook i.e Bahasa Inggris “When;andEnglish(2)this R textbook contains enough simple grammar materials for seventh grade students, but there are also few important grammar materials that are not available in this textbook i.e Bahasa Inggris “When EnglishAlthoughthis RingstextbookispublishedABell”byMinistry. of Education and Culture, it does not guarantee that this textbook is perfect because there is no cassette for listening materials in this textbook so that it makes this textbook lack in presenting listening materials.
