Abstract

In this final project, the objective of the study was to find out the difficulties and cause of difficulties in conditional sentence. It was limited in using conditional sentence type 1, 2, and 3. To achieve the objectives of the study, the writer conducted a quantitative research. The experiment was held in MA AL- AZIZIAH PUTRA KAPEK with the subjects are first grade students at class XB which consist of 30 students as the sample. The writer carried out a case study using test and questionnaire to gather the data. The data analysis in this research was the students test, regarding to the forming in 3 types of conditional sentences. After doing the research it was found that the students have difficulties in answering items that related to conditional sentence type 2 and 3. It can be proved by the result of the test that shown 41.06% from all of the students have difficulties in conditional type 2 and 49.50% students failed in answering items related to conditional type 3. There were also 2 types of student difficulties that the students faced. There were: verbs tense problems, and omissions of some morpheme when constructing conditional sentences. The contributing factors that cause those problems were the student’s lack and poor understanding in every tense that related to the three types of conditional sentences.
