Abstract

Abstract: This research entitled “The use of Graphic Organizer (GO) on students’ ability in writing recount texts: An Experimental Study at SMPN 13 Mataram in academic year 2017/2018. This study aimed at identifying the effect of using GO to and to what extend GO affects students’ ability in writing recount text at SMPN 13 Mataram in academic year 2017/2018. This is a pre-test-and post-test control group design with pre-test and post-test design. Using random sampling and the two classes obtained, they are VIII a as the experimental group with GO treatment and VIII c as the control group traditional method. The researcher committed a homogeneity test, normality, polled variant, and eta square as statistical testing. N gain score is intended to know the students’ improvement from the pre-test to post-test. Eta square aimed to assess the contribution of independent variable to dependent variable. Based on the hypothesis testing by using t-polled variant, it can be concluded that there is an effect of using GO to students’ ability in writing recount texts.(t-count= 2.723>t-table=2.000 at confidence level of 0.05(95%) and 2.666 at confidence level of 0.01(99%) It provides contribution about 10,80% number to affect the students’ ability in writing recount text. Therefore, Null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected which states” the use of GO on students’ ability in writing recount text is effective.
