Abstract

This thesis is aimed to observed poetic content in the opening song lyrics of Tokyo Ghoul anime, and desribe the meaning of Japanese symbol found in the opening song lyrics of Tokyo Ghoul anime. This research used library research and the data are collected in qualitative method. The data are found by listen to the song, find the song lyric, translated the song lyric, and observed the poetic content and symbol. This research used theory of Stein and Spillman (1996) and Riffaterre (1978). The elements of poetry which observed on this research are the poem’s theme, poem’s title, poem’s tone, figure of speech and poem’s persona and mode of address. This research found out the theme of the data in this thesis is tragedy happened in young boy which affected his life. The tone vocal of the opening song is related with the genre of the song. the persona of the song is Kaneki Ken and the address is Hide, and also the figure of speech most used is symbol. Riffaterre’s theory of semiotic used to describe he symbols found and related with Japanese culture, in where the song and the song creater is come from. The data originally are in Japanese and translated it to English first before observed.
