This research is aimed to investigate whether or not authentic material significanctly increases the setudents’ vocabulary mastery at MTsN 2 Mataram in Academic Year 2015/2016. The research used experimental design and simple random sampling as a sampling technique. They who were chosen as the samples were 8 th grades students of MTsN 2 Mataram. Based on the finding data from the research, the mean score of experimental group was 17.33 and in the control group was 14. It was obtained that the t-test value was 1.16 and it was lower than t-table value with degree of freedom (df) of 58 at the confidence level of .05 (95%) was 2.0017 or .01 (99%) was 2.3924. Actually, authentic materials have positive effect to students’ vocabulary mastery because it increases the students’ score in vocabulary test. However, the effect of authentic material on students’ vocabulary mastery is not significant because the t-test is lower than t-table. Further, this research can be hopefully used as one of the evidences that authentic material is an effective teaching material if it is used in appropriate condition.
