Abstract

This research is aimed to identified the types and communicative functions of Balinese metaphor used by people at Tambang Eleh village. This research was conducted in descriptive qualitative method. The data of this study were collected through observation, recording and note taking. The data was analyzed through identification, analysis and conclusion. The result of this study found that there are twenty five balinese metaphor expressions which are clasificate into five metaphor types based on Lakoff theory, they are absolute, conceptual, submerged, complex and conventional metaphor. From the five metaphor types, absolute metaphor was the most dominant used by Tambang Eleh People. It was also found that there are three communicative functions of those metaphors that contribute as the factor why people used metaphor expression, they are inexpressibility, compactness and vividness hypothesis
