Abstract

This thesis is about moral values in novel The Jungle Book by Joseph Rudyard Kipling. It is the first Nobel Prize in literature, 1907. The main character of this novel is Mowgli, Bagheera and Baloo. The research questions and answers are; (1) what are the moral values found in The Jungle Book by Joseph Rudyard Kipling? There are seven forms of moral values found in this novel such as (a) Wise, (b) Cooperative, (c) Helpful, (d) Friendly, (e) Love and Affection, (f) Kind-Hearted, (g) Bravery. (2) How are those moral values in The Jungle Book by Joseph Rudyard Kipling applied to reality? The results are; (a) Wise, it is shown from Bagheera to Mowgli when he advised him must not kill and eat the bull. It is applied to reality as well as Abdullah bin Umar explained about forbidden to kill the animals. (b) Cooperative, it is shown from Akela and Gray Brother to protect Mowgli from Shere Khan. In daily life, Ahmad quoted from An-Nash about protect anybody. (c) Helpful, it is shown from Rann the Kite told to Baloo that Mowgli was brought by monkeys. In real life, Ahmad quoted to help our brother. (d) Friendly, it is shown from Messua to Mowgli gave him some meals. In reality, Japanese culture is called Omotenashi. (e) Love and Affection, it is shown by Bagheera to Mowgli that he loved him very much. In application, Muttafaqun Ilaih stated about all the things showed loving and affection. (f) Kind-Hearted, it is shown from Father Wolf to Mowgli not kill him. In practice, Q.S. Al-Maidah in line (23) stated about it. (g) Bravery, it is shown by Mowgli when he was not afraid of the Red Flower. In common, all people have bravery when their country disturbed by enemy such as Soekarno and Indonesian people. This research is qualitative descriptive study, and method of library study are reading, highlighting, quoting, sorting or selecting the language expression from the story, then interpret, analyze, identifying and concluding the story. The writer use Abrams’ theory about pragmatic and Buzan’s theory about the forms of moral values.
