Abstract

This thesis entitled “Bimanese Metaphoric Expression for Teacher- Student Relationship” is aimed at identifying the suitable context for the metaphor and the values in its usage. The data were gathered through observation and interview. The method is descriptive qualitative. The study found that (1) there are four types of metaphor used for expression of advice, philosophy, proverbs, and terms. (2) There are four contexts in which the metaphors are used as expressions of identity, life principle, analogy, and social support. (3) The metaphors serve two major functions (a) moral and social values, for example: kapoda ade and maja labo dahu (b) sociocultural values, for example: fu’u mori and nggahi tua.
