Abstract

The thesis entitled “An Analysis of Nature’s Elements in Correlation to Symbolism in William Wordswroth poem: I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud was aimed to identify nature’s elements in correlation to symbolism in William Wordswroth poem. The data was analyzed by using descriptive qualitative method. To collect the data, the researcher taken from internet, articles and library research. There were two short of data that researcher used, the first one was primary data, the poem itself, I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud. And the second was secondary data, the data was taken from several books, jornal and websites. To analyze the data, the writer analyze the poem by applying Michael Riffaterre’s method of reading and explaining poems. First, read under its linguistic convention. Secondly, the poem will be explained in terms of its meaning in accordance with the literary convention. Thirdly, the poem will be read to find out its matrix. Finally, the reading of the poem to see its hypo gram. In this thesis, The researcher found that there are many nature elements used in this poem, they are cloud, vales, hills, daffodils, lake, trees, stars, breeze, milky way, bay, and solitude. Those elements make the poem more interesting. In this poem full of imagery and he describes his condition as a cloud that felt lonely, he sees a crowd of golden daffodils that are under the trees and beside a lake, he makes it seems like the daffodils are people. He felt so happy and expressed his feeling as gay in such a jocund company, and his thanks to nature for providing him with wealth by putting up a show like this. He really enjoyed nature and felt like he belonged there.
