Abstract

This thesis entitled “A Study Of The Psychological Aspects Of The Main Character In “One Piece”; A Comic By Eiichiro Oda” was aimed to identify and explain the characteristics of the main character in “One Piece” viewed from point of view of Sigmund Freud theory of psychology The Id, the Ego, and the Superego, and how they affect the main character characteristics. The data of this thesis were taking from comic and video of “One Piece”. There were six steps to conduct this research: 1.Reading, analyze, and identifying (supporting by watching the anime version) the characterization of the main character in the comic by Eiichiro Oda. 2. Distinguishing the characteristic and how the main character’s characteristics being affected. 3. Identifying the characteristics of the main character in the comic. 4. Quoting the pages of comic which described the characteristic and how the main character’s characteristics being affected. 5. Explaining the characteristic and the affected characteristics of the main character based on the quotations. 6. Concluding the discussion result. The main character of this comic is Luffy. The Id of Luffy was presented through his unconscious willing to protect his friend and afraid of losing it and also his willing to eat a lot. The ego of Luffy was described when he practiced hard and constantly reminding himself that to be admitted and to be recognized throughout all over the sea by becoming a pirate king. The Superego, the last component of personality to develop, the superego was the aspect of personality that holds all of our internalized moral standards and ideals that we acquire from both parents and society. In One Piece there was a rule that Luffy hold on to “if you are not strong enough you cannot protect thing that you love, you will lose it”. The Id, The Ego, and The Superego affect the main character characteristics by bonding The Id, Ego, and Superego into main character characteristics.
