he problem in this research is the low ability of the students in writing descriptive text. This research aims to increase the students’ ability in writing descriptive text by using picture as a learning media. This experimental research conducted from 12 th of the August 2015 until 12 viii th of the September 2015. The subject of this research is the students in grade VIII which consisted of 32 students in each class, and the researcher used two classes, one class as the experimental group and the other class as the control group. The object of this research is the use of picture. The instrument used was test. From the research result, researcher got the mean score of the experimental group in pre-test is 45.6 and for control group is 48.4. While, in post-test by giving a picture as a media, the mean score of experimental group is 63.4 and for control group is 54.5. Based on the test result, there is an improvement from the pre-test to the posttest. To measure the effect of picture in student’s test result, researcher used ttest formula. The t-test is 6.248 and the t-table in significant level .05
