Abstract

This experimental research uses one group design. It was carried out to find out whether the use of realia can increase students’ vocabulary achievement on the first year students of SMPN 11 Mataram in academic year 2013/2014. There were 31 students consisting of 19 males and 12 females. In gathering the data, pre-test and post-test were used. The vocabulary test consists of 50 items. In analyzing the data, a statistical procedure (t-test formula) was employed. The result of the data computation shows that the test value of the t-test is 4.037 which is higher than t-table at the confidence level of 0.05 (2.042) with Df (31 - 1). In fact, the t-test value is significant for confidence levels. It is clear that the null hypothesis (Ho) stating, “There is no effect of using Realia in increasing students’ vocabulary achievement of the first year students of SMPN 11 Mataram in academic year 2013/2014” was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) stating, “The use of realia can increase students students’ vocabulary achievement of the first year students of SMPN 11 Mataram in academic year 2013/2014” was accepted. It was concluded that the use of realia to increase vocabulary achievement of the first year students of SMPN 11 Mataram in academic year 2013/2014 was effective.
