Abstract

The background study of this research is the low ability of seventh grade students of SMPN 6 Mataram in writing procedure text. It is because students have not be able to arrange the procedure text yet and also there is not many method used by the teacher to help students in developing their writing ability. This study is a pre- experimental study. The design uses is one-group pretest-posttest design. The statement of the problem in this study is how is the influence of mind mapping method in writing procedure text. Then, the purpose of this study is to know the influence of mind mapping method use in learning writing procedure text. Theare two variable use in this study, there are free-variable which is mind mapping method, and controlling-variable which only use the students ability in writing procedure text. The population in this study is seventh grade student of SMPN 6 Mataram that have 11 classes. The sample in this study is Class VIIA of SMPN 6 Mataram that has 33 students in it, while the technique use in collecting the data is purposive sampling. The method use is test method that known as a test that instruct the students to write procedure text , how to make “Bolu Kukus Mangga” based on the mind mapping method that giving by the researcher. The test given twice, before and after treatment. Then the data process with T-test. according to the result of the data analysis, the researcher find out that Thitung more than Ttable with 5% significant where db= N-1=33-1=32 (th: 11,31> tt: 1,1697), so it is significant. So, the zero hypothesis (H0) rejected and on the other hand alternative hypothesis (Ha) approved. It shows that “There is an effect on using mind mapping method compare to the one that not using the method from before and after treatment in learning writing procedure text in VIIA grade students of SMPN 6 Mataram academic year 2018/2019.
