Abstract
The study was aimed to investigate the forms of questioning technique used by the teacher during teaching and learning process. Questioning plays a critical rule in the classroom activity, it is used by the teacher to check students’ knowledge or to encourage the students participation. This research is specifically focused on describing and analyzing oral questioning techniques used by the teacher in English language classroom. To achieve such aims, one English teacher and 34 students were selected as the participants. The researcher decided to use qualitative method for data gathering. The data were collected from two sources, the primary and the secondary sources. Primary data were the teacher and the students. Data were collected from original sources in an uncontrolled environment. They were collected through recording, observation and note-taking in a natural setting. Secondary data were obtained from secondary sources such as reports, book, journals, documents, magazines, websites and more in the form of literature review. The findings showed that display questions were used by the teacher more frequently than referential questions. It was also revealed that the students’ responses were varied toward teacher’s questions.
