Abstract

Indonesian people generally own diversity in ethnic, culture, and language and all of these give definitely contributions to the colors of the existence for them, so those people can master two languages at once, one more, that are the first language (L1) ( the local language/mother tongue) and the second language (L2) (Indonesian language), even foreign languages in interacting with other individuals. Sasak language is a medium of communication in every day life for the speakers indigenously living in Lombok. Among them, there can master and use Indonesian language. The degree of bilingualism is much larger in spoken form rather than in written one, although in writings students may have a sort of bilingual ability. Indonesian language, for instance, will get difficulty if they can speak it, so their intention in communication cannot be achieved. This results in the degree of usage of the language are very low. This study aims at understanding more the insertion of any elements belonged by other languages in the creation of writings done by students of MA Mu’allimin NW Anjani Class X. Pertaining in the form level, there are some kinds and factors the occurance of code switching in their writings. The researcher endeavors to understand how the competence of Indonesian languae of the students of MA Mualimin in process of their learning with the classroom and out of the classroom, through looking at several mistakes in writing their works, namely how much the influence of Sasak Language and foreign languages are found in their writings. Along with this fact it can be seen how the learning and teaching process has been done in the school in sense of the occurence of code switching in writings. This study is important to do because by having the clear description upon the code switching it can provide the clear understanding about the background of students’ lives and their ability in using language when interacting.
