Abstract

Power conversion device have important role on electricity system, one of power conversion device that commonly used is inverter. Inverter as electronics device massively used in industry as well as in household application. Low efficiency that found on an inverter caused by un-optimal work method will reduce output voltage quality and produces high low-order harmonics. Multilevel Cascaded H-Bridges (CHB) is one type of multilevel inverter that is developed by arranging several H-bridge inverters. The topology of inverter is commonly used because the waveform of voltage output is close to sinusoidal, that means it enables to produce lower harmonics distortion, and suitable to high power applications. This research is aimed to design a single-phase 5 level multilevel Cascaded H-Bridges (CHB) that is modulated using carrier-based PWM technique, especialy multicarrier phase-shifted and level-shifted modulation technique. The PWM pulses are be generated using Arduino Mega 2560. Among all modulation techniques, that are investigated, multicarrier phase-shifted modulation technique results the best output (the value of THD is 16,4%). Whereas among the three schemes on multicarrier level shifted, POD schemes has the best performance with value of THD is 22,8% .
