Abstract

Biomass and Carbon Sequestration of Tanjung Batu Mangrove Forest, Sekotong Tengah Village, West Lombok Regency. Global warming is a factor causing global climate change. One of the impacts of global warming is the melting of polar ice caps which causes rising sea levels which poses a threat to coastal ecosystems, one of which is the mangrove forest ecosystem. The role of mangrove ecosystems in mitigating global warming is to reduce the concentration of CO2 which is stored in the form of carbon stocks. The Tanjung Batu mangrove area is part of the Essential Ecosystem Area (KEE) of the Teluk Lembar Mangrove Corridor which has an important role in mangrove conservation efforts, especially in West Lombok Regency. The purpose of this study was to analyze the biomass and carbon sequestration of the Tanjung Batu mangrove forest. Biomass data retrieval was carried out by double plots using the plotted path method. Mangrove vegetation data were analyzed using allometric equations for analysis of biomass, carbon stock and carbon sequestration. Based on the research results, the total estimated value of biomass produced by Tanjung Batu mangrove forest is 1621.74 tons and Rhizophora stylosa is the biggest contributor. The total estimated carbon stock in the Tanjung Batu mangrove forest is 810.87 tons and its carbon absorption is 3048.87 tons of CO2 and Rhizophora stylosa is the biggest contributor.
