Abstract

This research aimed to find out whether or not there was an effect of using Spongebob animation movie on students' vocabulary. It was conducted at Mts Darul Qur’an Bengkel academic year 2022/2023. The population was 94 students at first grade. The samples were class VII of 20 students as the experimental group and class VIII of 20 students as the control group which was chosen by using cluster random sampling technique. The data were gained by using testing instrument which were divided into three procedures of data collection; pre-test, treatment, and post-test. Pre-test was given in both groups to know students' background knowledge towards the concerned topic. The mean scores of pre-test were 62,25 for experimental group and 59,25 for the control group. In the treatment section, the experimental group was treated by applying Cornellnote taking technique while the control group was taught by using PPP (presentation, practice and product) technique. Finally, post-test was conducted in both groups to know whether or not there was a positive effect in students' vocabulary result of average scores 80,75 in experimental group and 40 in control group. Then, the data were analyzed by using t-test formula for the numerical data and identification. Research result showed that the t-test score was 4.91 and it was higher than the value of t-table 2.0017 in the degree of freedom 58 and at the confidence level 0.05 (95%). Consequently, the Null hypothesis (Ho) is successfully rejected, and as the conclusion Cornell-note taking is effective to be used in improving vocabulary comprehension achievement at first grade of Mts Darul Qur’an Bengkel.
