Abstract

Language learning is very important in our world of life today. But not many can speak foreign languages properly and correctly. This is where the role of a teacher is needed to educate students in speaking a foreign language. But the students are very less confident in using English to speak. The purpose of this research is to find out the teacher’s ability to teach using Task Based Learning to improve students'' speaking skills. This study use of qualitative descriptive research and case studies. Qualitative research explores real-life experiences, while case studies examine unique cases for theory application. Woodside and Wilson’s guide highlights case study benefits, challenges, and strategies, particularly in business and industrial marketing research. There are several obstacles faced by the teacher namely, the lack of enthusiasm of the students, the lack of understanding of the students'' vocabulary, and the lack of learning time. Teachers have several solutions in solving these problems such as holding vocabulary exercises, using humor when teaching, and condensing learning materials. Research at MAN 2 Mataram emphasizes the pivotal role of teachers in Task-Based Learning, fostering active student participation and addressing challenges. Despite obstacles like vocabulary gaps and class size, teachers adeptly navigate these issues to enhance speaking skills, promoting student-centered learning.
