Abstract

This study aimed to improve students ’ pronunciation ability usingtheNeurological Impress Method in the second grade of SMAN 7 Mataram. Thismethod was developed by R.G. Heckelman, California, in 1952. This was a mixmethod study using the pre-experimental design and descriptive qualitative. Pretest, treatment, and post-test was the stages of this research. This study included34 students from SMAN 7 Mataram. The pre-test and post-test were bothpronunciation tests consisting of 23 vowel words. Data was gathered throughthepronunciation tests and students' observation sheet. According to the study'sfindings, the Neurological Impression Method significantly improved students' pronunciation skills. The average score pre-treatment was 59.67, whereas theaverage score post-treatment was 85.50. The improved percentage was 43.28%. Additionally, the Neurological Impression Method improve students’ phonemicawareness and increase students ’ ability in pronouncing the English wordsespecially the words with vowel and consonant sound. This indicates that students' pronunciation ability have improved.
