Abstract
This study is aimed at finding out the students’ ability in translating English noun phrases into Indonesian as well as finding out the problems they have in doing test. It is a descriptive study, involving 109 students as a sample. The data were collected by data analysis, it was found that, generally, the students’ ability in translating English noun phrases into Indonesian was at sufficient level with the mean score of 74. The data were analyzed both qualitatively and quantitavely. Having analysed the data it was found that the students’ ability in translating English noun phrases into Indonesian is in sufficient level with the average 74% of the students’ ability is in categorised less idiomatic (translation compatible with structure and meaning, but message is not compatible in the receptor language (TL)), only 26 students achieved very high level ability in categories free/natural and the rest are sufficient with the lowest score 30 including their problems in translation English noun phrase into Indonesian.
