Abstract

Campylobacter jejuni is a pathogenic bacterium that causes Campylobacteriosis that is zoonotic. Disease could be transferred from animals to humans throught direct contact with infected animals , or consume and handle contamined livestock products . Approximately 70 % of Campylobacteriosis cases in humans is caused by the contamination of C. jejuni on chicken carcasses . Not only birds , bacteria C. jejuni can also be transmitted to other animals such as cows. Campylobacter spp often found in heifers , especially in the gut , and these bacteria can be isolated up to 90 % at the intestine cows in the slaughterhouse . This study aimed to examine the use of the poultry C. jejuni imunochromatography kit for the detection of Campylobacteriosis on virgin Bali cattle. The principle of serologic imunochromatography is to detect antibody based on antigen - antibody complex reaction on a nitrocellulose membrane materials using antigen of poultry C. jejuni . Immunochromatography kit test results showed that all sera tested were positive as well as FBS. Positive results on all serum samples and negative control FBS might be due to antigen preparations which was not perfectly carried out thus protein of sheep blood mixed into the antigen prepared causing reaction between protein A and protein of sheep blood on test line. protein A has a molecular weight range between 13000-42000 Dalton, and has the ability to bind to IgG subclass of several species of mammals such as humans, sheep, mice, horses, cows, buffaloes, but was unable to bind to goats and chickens immunoglobuline.
