Abstract
This study aims at describing and analyzing the morphosyntactic on negation in Sasak. The data was collected using a field linguistic method -language elicitation- and was analysed using morphosyntactic analysis. It was found that Sasak has both syntactic and morphological negation. Syntactic negation was expressed using the negative particle ndeq and the morphological negation is realized using the suffix -an. The particle ndeq reverses the meaning of the propositions. Negative sense will appear by adding the particle ndeq then followed by word level such as auxiliary, verb, adverb, and adjective. Meanwhile, that suffix –anusually preceded by reduplicative particle of its negation form. It¬ is noticeable that there are obligatory elements of sufix -an, and the reduplicative. Both are considered obligatory because if one of the elements is not included, the construction is either ungrammatical, or it sounds unnatural and also produce different meaning. Furthermore, another term that indicated negation in Sasak is prosodic negation that commonly used to express the sarcasm to concealing or convey certain meaning of the phrase or sentence. Needless to say, these initial findings could hopefully provide insights into the understanding of Sasak negation and this thesis could serve to enrich Sasak language documentation.
