Abstract

Background: Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is a clinical manifestation of necrosis of the heart muscle due to decreased or cessation of blood flow to the heart due to coronary atherosclerotic occlusion. Selvester QRS score using ECG can be used to detect the extent of myocardial infarction. A high red blood cell distribution width (RDW) value is associated with myocardial injury in acute coronary syndromes and can also be used to predict of morbidity and mortality cardiovascular disease. This study aims to determine the relationship between RDW and the area of myocardial infarction as assessed by the Selvester QRS score in AMI patients. Methods: This study used an observational analytic design with a cross sectional approach to determine the relationship between RDW and the area of myocardial infarction as assessed by the Selvester QRS score. The research subjects were patients with a diagnosis of AMI at RSUD Kota Mataram who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Patient identity, RDW value, history of hypertension and diabetes mellitus and the results of ECG recordings were collected from the patient's medical record. The results of the ECG recording will be assessed by the Selvester QRS score. Results: the total subjects in this study were 51 people, consisting of 40 male (78.4 %) and 11 female (21.6 %). The average age in this study was 58.39 years. There are 2 subjects with RDW > 15%. Based on the results of the correlation test, there was no significant relationship between RDW and the area of myocardial infarction as assessed by the Selvester QRS score (p=0.841). Conclusion: there is no significant relationship between RDW and the area of myocardial infarction as measured by the Selvester QRS score in AMI patients at the RSUD Kota Mataram.
