Abstract

This study aims to elaborate on and explain how women’s roles were depicted in a movie and how these roles might be used to help build students’ character in English language learning. This study used the descriptive qualitative to analyze the data. The data was taken from a film entitled Elizabeth: The Golden Age and this study only focuses on three notable women figures. Those women figures are Queen Elizabeth I, Mary Stuart Queen of Scots, and Bess Throckmorton. From the result of the data analysis, there are 11 good characters found in the three figures. These characters are based on Lickona’s seven core characters and the eighteen-character proposed by The Ministry of Culture and Education of the Republic of Indonesia. Based on the findings, this movie has a great potential for teaching character building to students.
