This research aims at discovering the effect of using fishbowl strategy to improve students‟ speaking skill in discussion. The population of this research was 55 students of 2classes, and the sample was 30 students. Using experimental study, a pretest and a posttest is used as the instrument to collect the data. The t-test formula was used to analyze the data. Data computation shows that the pre-test mean score is 52.93 and the post-test mean score is 59.33. It proved that post-test was higher than pre-test. However, the result of this research proved that the total value of t-test (0.5078) was lower than the confidence level of 95 %. (2.0452) with degree of freedom (df) 29. As a result, since the t-test (0.5078) was lower than t-table at significant level of .05 (95%), clearly, the alternate hypothesis (Ha) which stated “fishbowl strategy is effective in teaching discussion in speaking” is rejected. It is concluded that fishbowl strategy did not give effect on improving students‟ speaking skill in discussion at grade 2 of Junior High School 2 Sukamulia in academic year 2015/2016.
